The W203, W221, W204, and R171 Jack Pad Tools are very simple and intuitive use. Simply snap the tool into one of the four jack point pockets, position your floor jack beneath the jack pad tool, and lift the chassis off the ground. Please observe common sense safety guidelines. Consult instruction steps below for clarification and troubleshooting details. Customers who purchase the R171 tool should read #4 below.

1.	Inspect the jack point pockets for any damage that may interfere with inserting the jack pad tool. The jack points can be easily deformed if care is not taken when using a floor jack without the jack pad tool. Replace damaged jack points if necessary. Jack points are available from your Mercedes dealer and are priced between $3.00 and $14.00 depending upon the chassis type.
2.	From time to time clean out any road dirt that may have accumulated in the notches at either end of the jack point pocket. The notches must be free of mud in order for the bullet latches in the end of the jack pad block to engage in the notch and suspend the jack pad tool from the jack point.
3.	For any of the jack pad tools with four bullet latches (W203, W221, and W204 units) simply snap the jack pad tool into place. You will now be able to easily identify the jack point location under which to position your floor jack.
4.	For the R171 jack pad tool with six bullet latches, follow the same instructions in #3 above when using the tool with a W203 jack point. Basically, snap the jack pad tool into place. For the W221 or rear R171 jack points, it is necessary to insert either end of the jack pad tool first, then apply pressure towards the inserted side, and finally swing the other end of the jack pad tool into place. This is necessary to prevent the four lower bullet latches from hanging up on the rim of the jack point.
5.	Remove the jack pad tool when the repair or maintenance work is completed and the vehicle is lowered to the ground. The bullet latches are not intended to hold the jack pad tool in place while the car is in motion.
6.	Do not attempt to remove the spring loaded bullet latches. Doing so almost always damages the pins. The pins need to be replaced if they are disengaged from the captive springs

Please observe basic safety precautions when using the Jack Pad Tool.
< Block wheels on the opposite side of the car.
< Use a floor jack with a cup large enough to accommodate the
    jack pad tool (minimum 3-inches).
< Never work under a car unless it is properly supported with
    suitable jack stands.
< Raise the car the minimum amount to complete the job at hand.
< Remove the Jack Pad Tool before driving the car

The R50 and E88 Jack Pad Tools have four 1/4” rubber bullets which provide a friction fit in the jack point of most late model Mini Cooper and BMW cars. These bullets are about 1/2” long and can be removed and replaced if necessary. When pressed into the jack point the jack pad tool is suspended until a floor jack can be positioned below the tool.

If the tool is pressed directly into the jack point, the rubber bullets may drag slightly as the jack pad tool is seated into the pocket of the jack point. Follow these simple steps and you will find that the jack pad tool is quite easy to use.

1) Insert either end of the jack pad tool block first.
2) Compress the rubber bullets by applying pressure towards the end
    which was inserted first.
3) Swing the other end of the block into place while maintaining
pressure against the rubber bullets on the end that was inserted first.
4) Release the pressure and the jack pad tool will center up in the
    jack point pocket.

It is a good idea to inspect the jack points on your car for damage from time to time. Replace damaged jack points or jack points with missing pins. Also, periodically clean out any accumulated road dirt that could interfere with the jack pad tool.
